Program Overview

Access to basic healthcare remains a challenge for many communities in Uganda, particularly for children, youth, women, and the elderly. The Healthcare Services and Awareness Program at Humairah Charity Foundation (HUCHAFO) is designed to bridge the gap between vulnerable populations and essential health services, while promoting awareness, prevention, and healthy living.

This program combines direct healthcare support with community education and advocacy, aiming to reduce preventable illnesses, increase access to treatment, and promote long-term wellness.

Program Goals

• To increase access to basic healthcare for underserved and at-risk populations

• To raise awareness on common diseases, hygiene, maternal and child health, and preventive care

• To strengthen health-seeking behaviors among youth, women, and families

• To collaborate with local clinics, health workers, and authorities for sustainable impact

Target Beneficiaries

• Children, youth, and women in low-income or rural communities

• Orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs)

• Elderly persons and persons with disabilities

• Community members lacking access to nearby health facilities

Key Program Components

1. Mobile Medical Camps

• Organizing periodic health outreach camps in remote or underserved areas

• Free consultations, treatment of common illnesses, and referrals

• On-site basic health screenings (malaria, HIV, blood pressure, diabetes, etc.)

2. Maternal and Child Health

• Antenatal and postnatal support for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers

• Immunization drives for children

• Nutrition education for mothers and caregivers

3. Health Awareness Campaigns

• Community health talks and workshops on:

  • Personal hygiene and sanitation

  • Preventable diseases (malaria, HIV/AIDS, typhoid, etc.)

  • Sexual and reproductive health

  • Mental health and substance abuse

• Use of printed materials, radio programs, and door-to-door outreach

4. Health Partnerships and Referrals

• Partnering with local clinics and health centers to offer specialized care

• Referral system for emergency and chronic health conditions

• Coordinating with government health programs for immunizations and supplies

5. Menstrual Health and Hygiene

• Distribution of sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene kits to girls and women

• Education on menstrual hygiene management and debunking myths

• Creating safe, private spaces for adolescent girls to manage periods with dignity
